My husband and I are nomads without a home base but with many modes of transportation, namely an RV, a motorcycle, and a sailboat. I write recipes and stories for curious people who believe experiences are more important than things and who want more adventure.

For everyone in the states, happy 4th
Since our son died in 2020, the 4th of July has been a rough holiday for our two daughters. The 4th was their holiday… Corey loved fireworks and the three of them would spend hours together setting them off in our front yard.
Since loosing their older brother, neither of our daughters has been interested in celebrating the 4th. But, this year we are changing that story. I’m not sure about time healing all wounds, but it does make the wounds easier to live with.
This year our girls are joining us in Michigan for the weekend and we are spending today out on the sailboat, hanging out until after the sun sets to watch the fireworks from the lake.
To say I have complicated feelings about celebrating the anniversary of our nation is an understatement. I love this country. I also hate so much of what’s happening here. I love this holiday. And also, it’s a rough one.
For those of you in the US, I hope you are spending the day doing something you love with people you love, because in the end, that’s really all there is, isn’t it?

We also lost our 18-year-old son, Ari, 15 years ago when he was killed by a drunk driver right in our neighborhood.
In my Substack, Sincerely, Dr. Dan, i wrote "Our Special Days," describing the complicated feelings we have on birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day and "DOD = Date of Death."
I'm sure you'll relate.
