Sending you and your family much love today Rebecca. The place of grief and healing spring from the same ground, and I believe it is a place fertile with hope and joy 💕💕💕

I hope you have a blessed weekend with your family. It is wonderful to have the people you deeply love around you, as that truly matters the most. Your son will surely be happy to know everyone is together on his favorite holiday, and he is certainly there in spirit.

Sounds like you're doing what your hearts need. I wish you much comfort, sweet memories, good food, and maybe a harmless sparkler or two. The only constant is change; here's to the end of the ... whatever the hell's happening to the us these days, and SOON. Can't last forever, right?

Thank you, my friend. ❤️ Nothing lasts forever.... we'll just keep saying it like a mantra.

I’m not sure when it flipped for me regarding fireworks. I have the same feeling about fireworks as I do for airshows… They’re dangerous.

With that said, I was in Boston one year for the Fourth of July. We listened to the Boston Pops and watched the fireworks over the water. We could see all the fireworks displays happening, from all these little cities along the coastline. It was pretty exciting.

I suspect the beauty of your fireworks will be mirrored in the water and be amplified in their grandeur. In my head, I hear the collective ahhhhh, ohhhhhh, awwwww in unison.

Watching the fireworks from the water was so much fun! It was truly one of the most fun 4ths we've had in a long while. I'm not sure I ever want to watch a fireworks display from land again. :-)

We also lost our 18-year-old son, Ari, 15 years ago when he was killed by a drunk driver right in our neighborhood.

In my Substack, Sincerely, Dr. Dan, i wrote "Our Special Days," describing the complicated feelings we have on birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day and "DOD = Date of Death."

I'm sure you'll relate.

Try to have some peace on this day. Your son would want you and your family to enjoy the celebration.

Thank you so much Dr Dan. We had a lovely day. One of the best/worst discoveries over the past 6 years has been the realization that life, and the people around us, can be enjoyed even in the midst of pain and grief. I wish you didn't understand, but I know you do.
