Let's Get Lost, Issue #34, Jan 18,2025: Burnout prevention challenge, Palm Springs restaurants, Creamy white bean pasta, Tres leches pan de elote, Easy chicken enchiladas, Bonus cookbook excerpt!
What a clever idea for a break!! Burn out prevention challenge: Create your own film festival. I am blown away by this and how yummy that pasta sounds….!
Thank you Lolly! We went to a couple of California wineries this weekend and I purchased a jar of anchovies at one of them just so I can make your Spaghetti alle Acciugue this week!
This film festival idea sounds like a dream come true! Definitely going to look into planning something like this with my mom friends for when we need to not be moms for a few days 🫠😆
Sherman’s Deli!!! Love that place! And you’re right - so many good places to eat in Palm Springs. It’s one of my fave places. Love all the recipes included in this post!
This is a great story - the pasta, the enchiladas. YUMMY. I miss going to film festivals and miss being in NYC to take in "New Directors, New Films" at MoMA. Would love to go back to Palm Springs, too, haven't been in 20+ years. Thank you for writing this treasure.
This was the first time I'd ever been to a film festival and I was surprised at how fun it was. I want to seek out others - Thanks for mentioning New Directors, New Films" at MoMA. I hadn't heard of it, but have added it to my list of things I want to attend!
Adored this one, Rebecca. I used to go to the movies all the time, but since Covid, I’ve stayed home. One of my resolutions this year is to go once a month and tomorrow I’m going to see the Dylan film with a friend.
Oh, I really want to see that movie! Let me know what you thought of it! And I love the resolution to go to the movies once a month! Most of us probably need more resolutions to add more fun to our weeks.
I have been debating getting a Ninja Creemi forever. I don't want to sacrifice the counter space or the moola, but the idea of desserts made with nothing but fruit when I'm a genuine ice cream addict over here is so tempting.
We had cherry frozen yogurt for breakfast this morning - greek yogurt, canned black cherries, stevia, and a bit of vanilla. It tasted like we were eating ice cream for breakfast - which I'm not against, but greek yogurt is probably the better option. :-)
From one ice cream addict to another, I think you would LOVE it. I had the same concerns as you - in a tiny kitchen, every added thing needs to be super worth it. I found a spot on the top of our cupboards to store it and I've been pulling it down almost every day. If I had enough counter space, I'd just leave it out. It is kind of pricy, but based on how much we're using it already, I'm 100% sure we'll get our money's worth. (Or, our daughters' money's worth, since they bought it for me!)
It was incredibly enjoyable to relive our week through this newsletter. Sharing the experience with you was such a delightful treat! Now I’ll have to try making the pasta and enchiladas!
It really was a fantastic experience. Thank you for hosting me and letting me tag along with you. And for taking me to so many good restaurants! Love you, friend.
I love the idea of bingeing on movies to cope with burnout—and Palm Springs is a perfect escape for so many reasons, including wonderful restaurants. We love Sherman’s Deli, and now I’m eager to go back to PS to try the others you mention. (But I wish that film festival was still going on!) Thanks for the recipes, which all sound great and worth trying.
This was the most time I'd ever spent in Palm Springs and I fell in love with the town. If I lived there, I'd want to go out to eat every day! So many good restaurants. And Sherman's Deli is the best. The pastry case alone is reason to go there! Maybe next year we'll both make it to the festival! Wouldn't that be fun?
Hi Rebecca,
Apologies if the answer is obvious, but can I buy your book?if so, how?
Thank you,
Hi Lynda! Thanks for asking! You can buy it from here: https://www.rebeccablackwell.com/p/the-cookbook
Let me know if you have any problems with the ordering process!
Love my Ninja Creami! I made a yummy dairy-free coconut ice cream with it most recently.
It’s so great, isn’t it??? I’m trying new things in there almost every day!
Also. I gleefully cackled along with Steve. You needed a break. 🩵
I’m sick of the phrase “soon to be released”!!!! Hahahahahaha
I want my cookbook, and I want it now.
🥰

You are the best, Rebecca!! I’m holding myself back from jumping on the plane to your house for dinner!!
Stop it! Get on that plane!

Thank you friend! Sherman's Deli is incredible! If I lived there, I'd be tempted to eat there every week.
We bought our daughter a Creami for Christmas and she’s loving it too.
I am so impressed with it. I can already tell that it's going to be one of the most used appliances in my kitchen.

Loved the film and loved the outing! Good for the soul.
