I'm not a sailor but am interested in hearing the stories and adventures of sailors. I somehow found Oliver (Sailing With Phoenix) and really got the message about tomorrow isn't guaranteed. If you have a dream, do what you need to in order for it to happen.
This is such good advice! Yes - tomorrow isn't guaranteed. Timing is important, but also there's never a perfect time for anything. If you spend your whole life waiting for the "right" moment, you might spend your whole life waiting. :-)
So nice to meet you Nica! I just subscribed to your substack and your podcast and got lost on your website for a while. :-) I am so impressed of all you are doing on a 28’ boat! Amazing and inspiring!
Congrats on your new dream! I so relate, we aren’t dream and never do people either. Sounds like a fun way to spend the rest of the summer. My husband has sailed a lot but we’ve never considered living on one before. Who knows, there’s always time. Looking forward to hearing more.
Thank you! I'm so glad to know that you and your husband have sailed! I may have questions for you because we are new to all of it! Do you two have a sailboat now? Have you sailed mainly in one area?
No, we don't have one now. He sailed and raced boats when we were still in CO. He hooked up with a racing club, so he went all over, mainly CO, for that. I'm definitely an amateur. Funny, we have been talking more about it lately too.
So happy for you friend! ⛵️I saw a guy wearing a shirt recently that said “All gas, no brakes” and I loved it so much (it would be perfect for one of my kids, lol). But I think it might be perfect for you, too! You inspire and remind me to just go for it in life. 🙌
Hahaha! That's awesome! I am working on a Let's Get Lost product line and I think I just might have to add "all gas, no breaks" to a couple of items. It's perfect!
Congrats! The old adage goes: the two happiest days of your life are the day you buy your boat and the day you sell it. Having just sold my floaty home of almost 4 years (yup, full time, no dirt home of any kind anymore), I'm not sure I agree with the latter half of that statement, even though it was solely our decision to sell. We miss her. She took good care of us out there on the sea. I wish you and Steve all the best--the most fun, the most patience, the most creative problem-solving, to meet the most wonderful, supportive people (the boat community rocks!). And always remember: everything on your boat is broken; you just don't know it yet. 🤣 Fair winds and following seas!!
The same is true of an RV - everything is broken all of the time. So that, at least, will be familiar territory! 😂 It's so great to hear about your experience. It makes me even more excited for the months ahead. And I will be reaching out to you with questions for sure! Did you two keep to one area or move around?

Living on the 28’ cutter we bought in 1992, currently in French Polynesia. I podcast over at The Boat Galley podcast. Happy to answer any questions.

How fun! One more thing we have in common!

You’re an inspiration. Live life to its fullest! ❤️ Can’t wait for the boat pics 😊
So exciting, what an adventure! Congrats!!

We are slow-traveling, so try to stay in one area for a month or so. And feel free to ask me anything at any time about living aboard.
I like that. We like to be in an area long enough to get to know it.
I'm going to try the farro and tomato salad. Thanks!
Please let me know how you like it!
Ahhhh! I read this whole update with a huge grin on my face!!! YOU DID IT!! ❤️ And that bday gift for Steve could not be more perfect 😂
Haha! Right?!?! Thank you, friend! We are so, so excited!!!
