Well, Colorado isn't exactly purgatory! It certainly isn't South Dakota!

True story. :-)

Nothing says "learn to be flexible" like life on the road, huh? Great tale/lesson of persistence and resilience. And, oh how I wish I had access to an oven. Those Cream Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies are screaming my name, and echoing, like a Grand Canyon call.

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

I KNOW you understand! Thank you for the kind words! I also wish you could bake those cookies! If you were on the same continent, I might send you a batch. :-)

The universe is definitely a cheeky bastard! Haha! Enjoyed this post as always Rebecca. Love the sound of that stuffed butternut squash too. Oh my.

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

Thank you Shell!

One has to have hope and a sense of humour, and work on resolving the problem. Also, say 'no' to anyone who tries to take advantage of your situation. Best of luck for getting on the road next week.

Thank you so much Amela!!!

Knowing how to pivot is one of the most important skills to have in life. Also, humor and creativity, which you seem to have in spades! Loved this one.

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

Thank you Rachel! We are all constantly presented with opportunities to learn, once again, to not be attached to the outcome or how we think things "should" be, aren't we? I think you could teach a masterclass on how to pivot and embrace your new reality with humor and creativity.

"Life is what happens when you have other plans" has been a firm belief of mine for a long time. My day can change multiple times in 24 hours. I see it as God is protecting me from something that would be harmful or deadly. I accept it, move on and keep a positive outlook.

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

Life presents us with endless opportunities to learn how to not be attached to what we think "should" be and accept what is, doesn't it? Thank you for reading, my friend.

Claudia Byers's avatar

It sure does.

What an adventure—I really admire positive outlook. And you’re handling it way more amazingly than I think I ever could! ☺️ Also, cream cheese in chocolate chip cookies?! I’m incredibly intrigued!

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

Thank you Kerry! The cream cheese in the dough makes those cookies literally melt in your mouth. :-)

Sounds fabulous!

I love that you and Steve KNEW that you always have options! That’s kind of the secret to life in a way, realizing “hey, I have options!” You are amazing my friend! And YUMMO to those chimichurri steak fries!!!!

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

Thank you so much Betty! It's funny... We needed to be backed into that corner to see that we could come up with options no matter what. It was a truly valuable experience. And those chimichurri steak fries were inspired by something we ate last year at a vineyard in Temecula while wine tasting!

How well you have captured this story Rebecca! As Robin has said, every turn of phrase is wonderful.

And it’s so lovely of you to share Lucia’s story—more golden sparks of her light sprinkled into the universe 💕

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

Thank you so much Elizabeth! More golden sparks of light for everyone, forever.

You escaped unscathed and ever more resilient! A sense of humor helps. 💙

A sense of humor is essential, I think. :-)

Wow, it’s crazy how fast companies move when it benefits them! 🤣 One thing I wondered as I read this newsletter was …do you have an emergency kit? In the military we call it a “go bag”, which is stocked with essentials in case you gotta grab it and go. And how do you prepare for emergencies if you really are stuck? Like it snows too much or there’s a flash flood and you can’t go anywhere?

Just signed up for your Zoom class! Very excited about learning how to do this all in one hour! I hear cobbler and I think hours. 🤣

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

Woo-hoo! So glad you're going to join the class! Now I know we're going to have a good time! A "go-bag": we should have one. We know we should have one. We've talked about it. We have not done it. We've had a lot of "what if" conversations, but I honestly don't know how prepared we are for any given emergency. Once we had to leave the camper to go to an emergency shelter because a tornado was headed our way. We grabbed our computers, these hand painted tiles Steve's mom had made, and an accordion file with important paperwork. Honestly, everything else can be replaced. If we were ever in a situation where we were really stuck for a while, I think we'd be ok... we're pretty resourceful when we have to be. We have a lot of tools in this RV and Steve's basically MacGyver. 😂

Goodness, this post is full of meat and manifestation!

“those things are just hopeful bookends to a story that hasn’t yet been written”

“here, hold my beer”

“Life has a way of teaching us that plans are merely aspirations. They are little more than an idea of experiences that you hope to have. But that story hasn’t been written yet and we forget sometimes that we are merely a co-author. Co-author might be overly ambitious. We are, perhaps, the story’s biographers and only able to write it after the fact.”

Whenever I am thrown a curveball…after years of anxiety and frustration…I now know that perhaps I am being saved from something.

That lady who cut in front of me at the checkout line at Trader Joe’s? I was probably saved from getting hit by a speeding car blowing through a stop light.

When my dryer goes on the fritz and I turn to YouTube to find a possible solution and run into a repair person who has never worked on a “tower” machine…let’s do this together-I have found a resource for life who also sees my value.

When I frame the curveball to my benefit, it absolutely makes my life better.

The curveball that is Rebecca has absolutely made my life better. And these recipes are a dynamic duo in my home….a fine savory/comfort recipe for me (can’t wait to make this squash) and a cookie recipe for Sharon. The best of both worlds.

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

Oh my friend! You also, are one of the best curveballs that has ever been tossed my direction. What an absolute treasure you are to me. "When I frame the curveball to my benefit, it absolutely makes my life better." - Yes! I relate to this! There's no point in resisting reality. So we might as well roll with it. It reminds me of this quote: "The bad news is you're falling through the air, no parachute, nothing to hold on to. The good news is, there is no ground." -Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Well this will be a week to remember. What a relief GMC can through for you! I hope you told them about the crooked dealership. I am still mad at them for trying to rip you off.

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

That experience at the dealership was very eye-opening for us! Thankfully, in our experience, it's also rare. We've had many more positive experiences with car salesman than bad ones. But, we'll never negotiate a deal over the phone again, that's for sure. 😂

Holly Coppedge's avatar

Haha! Ken and I were just discussing what would happen if the truck broke down while we were pulling the rv. Now I know 😂 On our last trip to Fredericksburg the engine started sounding kind of funny. We were so thankful to have made it home so we could put it in the shop.

Holly Coppedge's avatar

We are definitely going to buy a new truck before we head anywhere further than Texas, Oklahoma, or Arkansas

Rebecca Blackwell's avatar

When our last truck was approaching 100k miles, we went back and forth about whether we were going to trade it in. The drive train warranty expires after 100k, and ultimately we decided that having that warranty in place was worth it and we traded it in for a new truck. It doesn't ensure that we won't have mechanical issues, but it does make us feel like we've got some levers to pull when we need to.
