+ A sailing video! And 30-Minute Chicken Soup, the Flakiest Buttermilk Biscuits, Banana Oat Cake with Chocolate Buttercream, Charred Eggplant Dip, and my new favorite word
Oh, the video was beautiful and well executed. My heart was sailing along with you. I have so many good memories of Lake Michigan. Yes, I hope Substack doesn't change and become like FB, Twitter, TikTok, etc. I limit myself to Substack and Instagram. Even Instagram is getting more mindless over time. But I love the great writings on Substack. People there are actually saying things that I will read. Enjoy what you have left of the time in Michigan.
What a mesmerizing video! It really looks like you are enjoying every minute of that sailboat and Iβm so happy for you π Plus, those biscuits are gorgeous. I like that they have a connection point and lean on each other to get taller - this is kind of like friendships! π
Ooooooβ¦. Iβll never look at biscuits the same way again. We really are enjoying every second we get on the water. Weβve probably got another week or so before we have to pull it out of the water until next year and weβre taking all we can get!
Thanks for sharing your struggles (and, of course, food!)

And . . that video! We have a drone on board and have not dared fly it when we're sailing yet. The only videos we have of us under sail are from anchorage neighbors or friends when we hot-dog our way into a harbor.
The first time Steve sent it up was sooooo nerve wrecking. We were terrified that heβd land it in the water. But he didnβt, and heβs really gotten the hang of capturing it now. Itβs not nearly as stressful. :-)
I love everything about this post, and itβs made me think hard about the content Iβm consuming thatβs making me stupider. Itβs such a powerful reframe - not just mindless scrolling, but what is actually making my mind twisted in not-so-good ways. Seeing it that way makes it far easier to actively avoid. Also, I canβt get that banana cake out of my mind. Looks AMAZING.
Every now and then something comes along that shakes me out of mindless behavior that isnβt good for me and isnβt making me feel good. How funny that we humans do things that make us feel bad. And weβre so good at justifying it! What a weird trait. Let me know if you make the banana cake! We love it around here!
I don't know how you do it Rebecca. Every week, I nod along to your words, as you have voiced exactly how I also feel. I have a similarly complicated relationship with social media. But yes, Substack does seem different (for now). I am so grateful for the connections I have made in here. I am grateful for your support, and to be able to read your words and recipes, to look at your beautiful photos. For the opportunity to learn from you. Ah, getting a bit soppy here!
And gosh, that sailing video. So calming, and the music! π
This is a brilliant post. I will address the titleβ¦clearly the drone video shows that you know how to enjoy yourself! Cheers. Oh, by the way, the music makes it even more magical.

Oh, Sam. He does it again. Truth.

Iβm with you. And also, I hope that day never comes. Andβ¦ if that day does come, I hope we have a postal service.
I almost wrote thatβ¦

Also, I'm so glad I found you on here!
Me too!!!
