It makes the perfect breakfast for a lazy weekend morning, especially when there’s only two of you and you get to eat it aaallll. I imagine it would taste even better poolside.

My mom also made these when I was growing up! She has German Jewish heritage. I don’t think her mom ever made them, but my mom loved the ones from Original Pancake House and started making them herself.

I remember not being too fond of them when I was little but growing to enjoy them as I grew up. Thank you for sharing this recipe and trip down memory lane, Rebecca! :)

I kind of forgot about the German pancakes my mom used to make until another Substack writer mentioned them a year or two ago. Since then they’ve had a resurgence around here and I make one every couple of months on a lazy weekend morning.

My mother made these and called them puffed pancake we were crazy for them!!

Puffed pancakes! I love that! Do you think they’d work with gluten free flour mix?

They do work but the flour needs to be a little lighter! I do one part corn starch 3 parts gf flour blend! (so like 1/4 c cornstarch and 3/4 c gluten free flour blend for each cup of flour in the recipe) https://rachelciordas.substack.com/p/gluten-free-dutch-baby
